Population – 70473 persons
Superface – 148 square kilometers
Coast length – 12 kilometers
Mijas is situated in 30 kilometers to the west from Málaga and is divided into three parts: coastal La Cala and Las Lagunas, and Mijas Pueblo, the last one at 428 meters above the sea level.
It is no doubt that the most remarkable part of Mijas is its center, Mijas Pueblo, first mentioned in the second century AD. 37 percents of its population are foreigners. There are two roads leading to the center: the old one, a wandering serpentine, that attracts only once and never again, and the new one, a modern highway, also curvy but not that much as the old road. In its appearance, Mijas is a typical Andalusian whitewashed town with its narrow streets, an arena for bullfighting and ancient Arabic buildings. At the highest point of Mijas there can be found a square with impressive sea-views, and it is also here where the local botanic garden is located.
In the very center of the town there is a handmade cave converted into a little hermitage constructed in the memory of Saint Virgen Maria de la Peña, the saint protector of Mijas.
Not far from the cave you can see the parking of local taxi, donkey taxi, as it is called in Mijas. Every donkey has its own registration number. These donkeys have concerted into a favorite touristic symbol of Mijas, adored by both the children and the adults.
Mijas is a good place to buy souvenirs. Here can be found presents meeting all the tastes of the world, from the traditional ceramic pots, magnets and bull statuettes to leather jackets and handmade carpets. If you pass by the central square, don´t forget to stop to buy fried almonds and taste aromatic caramelized peanuts.

Padel tennis or just padel is a variant of tennis. It’s interesting because of its strategic level, it’s fun because it is fast and, if we add our climate conditions, we get a magnific surround to play it, so it is not by chance that the first padel courts in Spain were built in the Costa del Sol, concretely in Marbella club.
The world championship is celebrated every two years and the first one was in 1992 in Spain. This championship is organized by the International Federation of Padel and is celebrated in two cathegories: male and female. This sport has a great growth nowadays. There is an extensive variety in the padel equipment. The racket is clue element in the game. If you are willing to buy a padel racket, the first step you should do is to consult an expert, for example Palas Padel, who will recommend you the most adaptable racket for your type of game (control, strength, etc.). Some racket brands are Daber, S.A.N.E., Akkeron, Vision, etc… Here is the list of clubs of padel in the Costa del Sol:
